Things I love...

Hello Funseekers!!!! Just a little update from Beantown and Red Sox fever is in full swing already. This past week Boston swept the New York Yankees during a 3 game homestand and in the last game, hit four consecutive home runs. I'm actually really close to Fenway Park, I can actually see the lights from the window in my dorm room. A couple people were watching the game downstairs in the TV lounge and if you went upstairs you could hear the crowd cheering from the stadium. :)

Well the weather here is Boston is great, which is one of the things I love (the theme of this blog update!):

1) Warm Weather

Today the high was something like 27 degrees Celcius. Awesome.

2) My New Overdrive Pedal

Ok, this thing is really really REALLY awesome. It's called the OCD pedal and it's handmade by a really small company in California. They're individually numbered and are built for extreme quality. They seem to be really popular at the moment because I called a bunch of stores here in Boston about it but everyone was sold out. I ended up buying it off the internet from a store in Maine. ( www.musictoyz.com cool site!)

The thing sounds awesome. It does the really subtle and transparent overdrive but also has enough range to get a really meaty distortion happening. It sounds really rock 'n roll. :D Everyone that's heard it says it sounds awesome. Don't worry, I'll be using when I come home too.

3) Coming Home Soon

Wow, only 3 weeks of school left! I'm flying back on May 13th!!!!

4) Pad Thai

Ok, you know how in Calgary you can't walk 10 feet without bumping into a Vietnamese restaurant that serves Pho? Well here in Boston there's about a million Thai restaurants and they all serve Pad Thai which is noodles with chicken, shrimp, scallions (they call green onions here scallions, isn't that weird?), bean sprouts and peanuts in a delicious sauce. I'm really digging it. So the other night The Middle Eights (and Izumi) went to a Thai restaurant called Chili Duck to have some Pad Thai. :D

Bass virtuoso Matt Marando drinking Thai iced tea.
Steven Davidson in a rare moment: arms are still and not drumming on the table.
Izumi! (We call her Zoom Zoom because that's what her Scottish roommate calls her)

And because it's impossible to fully comprehend the awesomeness with just still pictures; here's a video!

Ok, well it's time to really dig in and survive the last few weeks of school. Updates will probably (definitely?) be sporadic (sorry!) but I'll be home soon! :D

Take care everyone!

Reggae, Refreshment and Rehearsals!

Hi everyone, I hope you had a good weekend and thanks for checking out the update.

Well on Friday night Matt and I went to see an awesome show, we saw the Berklee Bob Marley Ensemble and the Berklee Reggae/Dub Ensemble play at Bill's Bar which is across the street from Fenway park. They both tore the house down! A really nice thing about going to school here is that you get to see a lot of cool music because a lot of the student groups/ensembles are better than "professional" musicians that I've seen before.

Mario lives in the same building as Matt and I, he's the guy in the middle. He's from Jamaica and is a singer for the Reggae/Dub Ensemble!

On Saturday night we decided to go on a walk through Cambridge to check out a guitar store (I didn't buy anything... yet) We walked around and checked out the sights and walked around Harvard and Harvard Square a bit. (Hey Liz, you should go to Harvard!)

We stopped off at a cool burger place called Mr. Bartley's Burgers. They have apparently the best burgers in America and they had cool names like the Tom Brady and the Rudy Giuliani. (The specials aren't on the board in the picture, they're in the menu)

I had a Tom Brady and Matt had a Boston College. The place is really popular, we went on a Saturday and at about 1:30 there was a lineup of about 20 people outside the place just waiting to get a table. The burger was really good and they make their own sweet potato fries there. A weird thing about The States is that they ask you how you want you burger done. I decided to err on the side of caution and ordered mine well done. It was a really good meal and I think I'll have to go back there sometime (it was only like a 20-30 minute walk from my dorm anyway)

Sunday was the return of rehearsals for The Middle Eights. (Pic below is Matt on the way to rehearsal) We've been writing up a storm and we have a couple shows coming up in September here in Massachusetts including a spot at the Spencer Festival (Some kind of county fair) I figure it'll be fun to play some tunes, check out consignment tables and maybe partake in a pie eating contest or two? I hope I'm not really uninformed about the nature of this "fair". Anyways, take care everyone, happy (belated) Easter and keep your eyes peeled (just an expression, please!) for more updates!

Filler... It's not just in hotdogs anymore!!!!

Hello Funseekers!!!! This is going to be a short fluff post as a taste until a better update comes this weekend (see title). There' s only five weeks of school left so it's going to be a rough and bumpy ride for the next little while. The weather here is a bit chilly and it snowed yesterday but I think it's worse in Calgary so I'm not going to complain.

Nothing much is new with me except I was checking out a new church on Sunday. It's called Reunion and is a brand new church (they just started in September). I'm going to try it out for a little while, it seems friendly and Park Street was a bit big for my tastes. They meet on Sunday mornings in the Hilton Hotel down the street from school so it's really really convenient.

Matt and I are going to check out this Easter service this Sunday then do a really long rehearsal with the Middle Eights (www.myspace.com/themiddleeights) if you haven't checked it out yet. This weekend I'm going to poke around and do some guitar/guitar pedal shopping so I'll do an update about cool stuff I find.

I'll leave you all with my results from the "Which Marvel character are you?" quiz which you can take yourself at: http://www.blogthings.com/whatsuperheroareyouquiz/

I'm not really sure how I feel about it.....

Take care everyone!!!!
